Live Echocardiogram Diagnosis of Newborn's Heart Defect
A baby boy was one of triplets born at a rural hospital in Norfolk, NE. The baby's pediatrician became concerned about an obvious heart murmur. The pediatrician requested a consult with a pediatric cardiologist 115 miles away using AET's wireless mobile solution. An echocardiogram of the baby's heart was transmitted live in real-time to the pediatric cardiologist in Omaha, NE.
The pediatric cardiologist was able to view the ultrasound from his laptop to provide an immediate confirmation of diagnosis that was not life threatening. The diagnosis allowed baby to stay at the rural hospital with his siblings and mother, alleviating the expense of transporting the baby to the specialty hospital.
